What is Family DIRT?

Come experience Family DIRT Hume’s off-road event for the whole family. Bring your toys, RVs, and family members, to the Mojave Desert south of Ridgecrest for an unforgettable weekend of amazing riding, fantastic food, a challenging speaker, prizes, and giveaways. Our camping/riding area has something for everyone, with a wide variety of terrain for all ages and skill levels.

Overview
  • How much is it? Ages 0-3 are free, $65 for ages 12 and under, $75 for ages 13-17, $85 for ages 18 and older. Event cost includes meals, snacks, meetings, raffle prizes, and a DIRT T-shirt as long as registration is completed by the deadline of October 17, 2021.
  • When do I have to register by? You can register any time online. There is no cutoff date to register.
  • How old do you have to be to attend? There is no minimum age, but a parent/guardian is required and responsible for any minors under their care at all times.
  • When does it start and end? The event begins with check-in on Friday at 3:00 PM and we’ll shut down on Sunday at 10:00 AM. However, feel free to come earlier or stay later.
  • How many meals are provided? We will be providing 3 meals and a couple of snack times. Please bring your own food for lunch on the trail on Saturday. You can also ride to Randsburg for a hot meal & milkshakes.
  • Can I bring alcohol? No. This is a non-alcohol event.
  • Will there be prizes? You bet.
  • Will I have a good time? Oh yeah!
  • What should I bring? Your own accommodations, something to ride, tools, riding gear, helmet, goggles, cell phone, clothes, jacket, flash light, toiletries, lawn chair, snacks, something for lunch on Saturday, firewood, fuel, oils, family, your appetite, and a sense of adventure.
Location/Directions
  • Where? BLM Ridgecrest/Mojave (map). Located 3.5 hours from Fresno, 2.5 hours Northeast of Los Angeles, and 3.75 hours North of San Diego.
  • Where will we be camping? We will be camping in the Prospectors Camp Site located between Searles Rd. and Trona Rd. near the Red Mountain riding area. Directions map. The GPS coordinates are N35.484767 W117.625833.
  • Driving directions:
    • From the North take HWY 99 south to HWY 58 East to HWY 14 North East, take Garlock road to HWY 395, take a right on Searles Station CTF. Follow the signs to our campsite on the right-hand side.
    • From the South take HWY15 to HWY 395, take a right on Searles Station CTF. Follow the signs to our campsite on the right-hand side.
  • What’s the terrain like? There are roads, trails, washes, open desert, single track, and hill climbs.
  • What’s the weather going to be like? We don’t know. However, be prepared for cold evenings and possible blowing sand.
Camping and Riding

Q. Do I need to bring my own RV/sleeping accommodations?
Yes. You are responsible to provide your own housing.

Q. Do I need to reserve a RV spot?
You do need to register for the event, but there are no designated spots. Just come out and pick a spot near our meeting and kitchen area.

Q. Will there be RV hook-ups?
No. We’ll be dry camping in the desert.

Q. Will there be port-a-potties?
Yep.

Q. Can I rough it in a tent?
Yes, but it can get cold and very windy. If the wind kicks up, it could blow your tent over!

Q. Do I need to bring my own ride?
Yes, we will not be providing any vehicles to use or rent.

Q. Is this open to all forms of off-road vehicles?
Yes, bring whatever you’ve got. It’s for motorcycles, quads, buggies, 4x4s.

Q. Does my ride need to be registered?
Yes, all vehicles must be registered with a current green or red OHV sticker and all quad must have flags.

Q. What happens if my vehicle breaks?
You are responsible to repair your own vehicles. Be prepared and bring tools (or a friend that has tools.)

Q. What happens if I get hurt?
You are responsible for all risk and liability while you are riding. We suggest riding with a cell phone to be able to dial 911 in case of a medical emergency.

Registration
  • How do I make sure I get my free DIRT T-Shirt? In order to receive your free D.I.R.T. T-shirt, you must register before October 17, 2021. Registration will still be open after this date, but we cannot guarantee you will get a shirt.
  • What if something comes up and I have to cancel? If you need to discuss cancelling your registration, please email our Registration Team or call us at 559-305-7788.

Chuck has returned to Hume Lake as the Director of Strategic Initiatives. Previously, he was at Hume Lake for 25 years and spent 9 years as the Adult and Family Ministries Director. He met his bride there and they have 3 crazy teenage boys. Chuck has a passion for sharing Christ and for outdoor adventures. In 2013 he, and a handful of Hume staff, brought these two passions together to launch the first DIRT event to bring adventure, food, and the gospel to men in the desert.

In 2008 Chuck moved to Portland, OR. where he planted Colossae Church. In addition to pastoring, Chuck leads the Contextual Leadership track for the Masters of Applied Theology and Doctorate of Ministry programs at Multnomah Seminary, serves as a consultant and speaks frequently. He is also the author of several small group resources as well as, over nine books. No matter where his work may take him Chuck’s unrivaled, favorite place to be is home with his three girls and wife Barbara.

Deposit and cancellation policy – ADult/Family Retreats

Deposits for Adult/Family Retreats
  1. Deposit #1 will be $100 per spot
  2. All remaining payments are due 2 weeks (14 days) prior to your date of arrival for your retreat.
  3. If any deposits are not made by the specified due date, you will be contacted by our Registration Department.
Cancellations for Adult/Family Retreats
  1. If you cancel any spots, you will forfeit the full deposit per spot at the time of cancellation.
