The summer of 1980, a young man, Norm, working at Meadow Ranch met a pretty lifeguard, Patsy. The rest is history. To say we are thankful for our time at Hume is an understatement. We married in 1982 and returned to Hume full-time in 1989.
My responsibilities were primarily designing the artwork for the camp themes and leading Dawn Patrol. I got to teach The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis at Wildwood and Joshua. Working alongside Don West, Jeff Lilly, and Bob Phillips, we designed several buildings and the new Wagon Train treehouse. Occasionally I am still invited to do some design or artwork for Hume. I am grateful to still be involved.
We loved raising our family at Hume with many unique opportunities: hiking in the woods, cross-country skiing, selling cookies, building forts, working summer staff, sailing, and so much more. We are grateful for the staff families and for those occasional calls that began with, “Did you know your boys were…?” We appreciate both the full-time and summer staff who invested their time in our kids, reflecting Jesus and serving as role models.
As adults, Jessica, Joseph, and Rusty agree that growing up at Hume provided a singular experience for which they are grateful.
We thank God for Hume Lake and what this connection has brought to all our lives. For our fellow staff and their families, and all the kids we met and saw their hearts captured for Christ, we are forever thankful.
