Ponderosa

High School Camp

Summer 2019

Why choose Ponderosa?

Clear Gospel Message

The gospel isn’t merely one ingredient in our programming mix. It’s the reason for everything we do.

Creative Theme

The theme is a practical link between the entertaining aspects of camp and our presentation of the Gospel. We leverage it as a background to Biblical truth.

Recreation

The high-energy, innovative games at Hume Lake give campers an outlet for their energy and counselors a chance to encourage team-building.

Dynamic Worship

Indoor worship, outdoor worship, corporate worship, devotional worship. Hume nurtures the attitude of worship from sunrise to sunset.

Activities

Hume Lake has an arsenal of activities for you and your students. Each afternoon during free time we push the limits while we play hard.

Local Ministry

We believe youth pastors know their youth groups best. In light of that, we run camp in order to give youth pastors the freedom to focus on their students.

Amazing Location

It is a place of great natural beauty, with warm summer days, cool nights, an amazing lake and wilderness surroundings. God makes cool stuff.

FAQ

Ponderosa can seem pretty surreal at first—one thousand campers, epic team competitions, cinematic camp themes, balcony-shaking music, and virtually endless activities, all at 5200 feet elevation in the national forest. But once you settle in you’ll realize that Pondy is actually very real—breakout groups with your peers and youth pastor, sunrise worship by lake, and a thousand simple moments where you notice the Gospel at play in your heart and all around you.

Ponderosa truly is the best of both worlds where you can escape the regular routines of life while rediscovering all the things that a life in Christ provides.

IMPORTANT
Some older mapping services will suggest you take the 245. It is a curvy, winding road that will take you at least an additional hour. DO NOT take 245!

2019 Summer Theme

What does it mean to follow christ?

This summer we want students to understand that Christ followers. . .follow Christ. Although many people in our culture have identified as a “Christian”, there is often a misunderstanding of how Jesus defines following. Even the earliest followers of Christ wrestled with the same questions we face today: “How do we follow a God we cannot see?” We will see how Jesus himself answers this question, and enables us to follow Him through His Spirit and the Church.

Galatians 2:20 (Theme verse)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Summer Band

The Eagle and Child

Leading Music Weeks 1-5

The Eagle and Child is a band from San Diego, formed out of a vision to create music that mirrors the complex beauty of a relationship with a kind and limitless God. They hope to write songs that are refreshing & thought provoking, words that are honest and accessible. The band members have spent a lot of years touring and playing music in different avenues, and hope to use their experience to make excellent art, as an act of worship to our good and faithful God.

Zion Worship

Leading weeks 6-9

As a band we want to do two things: Love God, and make Him known. Our passion is to worship our King whom we madly love, and to create a space where His children can do the same. There is so much freedom that comes with Christ, and we want to share that freedom with His people. We stand firm in Christ, and believe that His power can transform hearts and make dead things alive again.
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭125:1-2‬ ‭

For All Seasons

Leading week 10 (August 12-18)

Our hearts are simple: We desire to live a life of worship throughout every circumstance. We want to live out the Gospel both on and off stage. We want to be a people who continuously choose joy. We don’t want to be wavered by the things of this world. We want to stand firm in who we are in Christ. We want to worship Jesus not for what He offers but for who He is.
